National Climate Change Adaptation Program

The National Climate Change Adaptation Program (NCCAP) aims to prepare Australian governments and vulnerable industries and communities for the impacts of climate change. The NCCAP outlines in broad terms the climate change research to be undertaken and the tools and guides to be developed.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of Local Governments and local government organisations committed to sustainable development. ICLEI supports Local Government sustainability initiatives by providing technical advice, training, political support and information. ICLEI launched the Local Government Climate Roadmap in December 2007 to parallel the UNFCC Bali Action Plan, aiming to highlight the role of local government in climate protection. This website provides information on ICLEI programs, services, publications, news and events.

Cities for Climate Protection Adaptive and Resilient Communities Program

ICLEI Oceania's Adaptive and Resilient Communities Program (ARC) for Councils and communities aims to build capacity for climate change adaptation planning. ARC employs a risk and opportunities management framework designed for climate change adaptation. Program implementation is supported by tools and templates found in the Local Government Climate Change Adaptation Toolkit.

Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia

Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia is a joint initiative between the Australian Government and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Oceania. CCP Australia is a part of CCP International, the largest local government greenhouse emission reduction program in the world. This website provides information about CCP Australia projects, participating Councils, news and reports.

Solar Cities Program

Solar Cities is run by the Australian Government Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. The program is trialing a range of sustainable energy and water options. The data collected from Solar Cities will inform future climate change policy to reduce greenhouse gases. Perth is participating in the program. The Western Australian Government’s Living Smart Program aims to foster sustainable living and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Living Smart website provides useful information for households and communities about reducing carbon emissions and living sustainably. Implementation of Living Smart is underway in selected communities.

Launched in 2002, switch your thinking! is a greenhouse emission reduction program developed and implemented by the South East Regional Energy Group (SEREG) councils (Cities of Perth, Gosnells, Armadale, Serpentine/Jarrahdale and Victoria Park) and their communities.

The Western Australian Government’s TravelSmart program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative encourages people to choose alternative modes of travel to cars, particularly for single person journeys. TravelSmart tools for local governments are available on this website.

Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection

The AMCCP aims to build the capacity of CCP councils to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This campaign is part of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability. In Western Australia, the campaign is delivered in collaboration with the state government.
